Building a new house is daunting.
Choosing the right builder can make or break your project.
And what if you’re building in a small, sunny seaside town? A town where the majority of builders hit the surf, rather than the hammer, when there’s a good swell?
This is the situation the Connolly’s found themselves in when they decided to build a bach in Whangamata.
With a small section, they started looking at options. They searched for trusted building companies (that weren’t out surfing). They looked at moving an old house onto the section. Then they came across Ezyline.
“Ezyline was just perfect for what we wanted. Brand new, fully insulated, double glazed. And so affordable!”
The house was so good we built another one
The Connolly’s ended up buying not one, but two, Ezyline homes. Here’s their story.
THE FIRST BACH
The Connolly’s picked an Ezyline plan to suit their property and their holidaying needs. They made a few alterations to the plan, and building began at the Ezyline yard in Mt Maunganui.
Meanwhile, they dealt with the Thames Coromandel District Council (TCDC) to organise the consent process.
“It was great because we could go down to the Ezyline yard and check on progress.”
There was no running around chasing up builders, plumbers or electricians and struggling to get the project completed on time. No weather (or surfing) hold-ups.
Once building was completed at Ezyline’s yard, the home was transported to the section in Whangamata and installed. Simple.
THE SECOND BACH
After enjoying their new bach for 18 months the Connolly’s found an even better spot. Closer to the beach and with more space. Perfect.
So they bought that section and began the process again. Why not? It was so easy the first time. (By the way, they sold their first bach in 5 days)
This time, they chose a different Ezyline plan and made several changes. For example, they included a larger ensuite and a scullery for the kitchen.
“Ezyline were very easy to deal with. They were happy to change the plans to suit our needs”
Once again, the process was straightforward. The home was built on site at Ezyline and transported to the section in Whangamata when completed.
“All our friends are amazed at what we’ve been able to achieve for the money”
Here’s more of the Connolly’s feedback:
What’s to love?
- Having a brand new home that’s fully insulated and double glazed
- Excellent value for money
- Being able to add our own design ideas
- The hassle-free process
- The council consent process was quite complex and took a while. That was frustrating. But because we were building off-site we could start building while sorting out the consents. That was a real advantage.
Advice to others?
- Don’t be afraid to propose your design ideas
- Go for it!
