Building accommodation for farm staff is often more expensive when you live in a remote spot.
Getting construction materials delivered, and the builders themselves on site each day, all adds to the cost.
That’s why dry stock manager Lance Aldridge ordered an Ezyline transportable home in 2013 for the Hauhungaroa Partnership’s 6500 acre farm overlooking Lake Taupo (check out the view!)
The Maori incorporation already had a two bedroom Ezyline home on its dairy unit, and were so impressed Lance ordered a three bedroom version for their sheep and beef farm.
“We looked at all the options, including building on site. But the weather can be harsh and our location meant that wasn’t an economical idea.
“We also looked at other relocatable homes and transportable cabins but Ezyline just seemed to fit,” he says.
“We ended up with a very good, practical, affordable home. It’s a farm house at the end of the day, but if I was living in town that’s the sort of thing I’d want.”
Lance visited Ezyline’s construction yard at Mount Maunganui to choose a plan, but the rest was done by email.
“Because they’re building this sort of thing all the time they had everything at their fingertips. I thought ‘why reinvent the wheel?’ It can be frustrating to build a house but this was very straight-forward.”
Lance was able to modify his 95sqm home to include a larger, open plan kitchen and more cupboard space.
“It hardly cost anything extra to make those changes which was brilliant.”
The finished house was delivered to the farm in late 2013 and Lance says he and his staff are very happy with the end result.
“There’s nothing I would look back and say ‘I’d change that.’ I’d have no hesitation in recommending them.”
